The 2009 MOBO Awards Review

The 2009 MOBO Awards Review [AKA] The MONSTROSITY that was the MOBO's!!

Monstrosity Meaning *Sense 2: "Something hideous or frightful" -http://www.audioenglish.net/dictionary/

I really don't know where to start. I didn't actually have high expectations for this awards show, but I felt some what optimistic and gave them the benefit of the doubt! For those of you who don't know what the MOBO AWARDS are, it's basically the UK's version of the BET AWARDS. The Music. Of . Black . Origin Awards took place in Glasgow this year, and despite the controversy surrounding the decision, it seems as though Scotland accepted the awards show with open arms.

THE WINNERS:

Best UK Act: N-Dubz (TINCHY STRYDER should have won, for what he's achieved this year)

Best Newcomer: JLS (Agreed)

Best Song– : 'Beat Again', JLS ( K.I.G FAMILY should have won for how big Heads Shoulders Knees & Toes was this year or #1 by TINCHY)

Best Album: 'Uncle B', N-Dubz (Wanted BASHY to win, for Catch Me If You Can)

Best DJ: Trevor Nelson (Agreed)

Best Hip Hop: Chipmunk (DRAKE best deserved this, BUT i'm glad they gave it to a UK artist)

Best R&B: Keri Hilson (Agreed)
Best International: Beyonce (Agreed)

Best Video: 'Single Ladies', Beyonce (Agreed)

Best Reggae: Sean Paul (kmt foolishness! VYBZ KARTEL should have won)

Best Jazz: Yolanda Brown (Agreed)

Best Gospel: Victizzle (Agreed)

Best African Act: Nneka (Agreed)

**ALL THE WINNERS WERE VOTED FOR BY THE PUBLIC**

THE WEIRD:

  • Peter Andre, Peter flipping Andre!! What was up with the mini interviews he was doing backstage?! The MOBO team tried to make it different and 'fun', but it just looked awful and uncomfortable. "Who can guess the height of the next Diversity member to come from behind a screen..." WTF!?
  • La Toya Jackson hopping onstage everytime someone had finished performing in the 'MJ Tribute section', to say "GOOD JOB, THAT WAS AWESOME!" Who's Idea was it to give La Toya a microphone?
  • The Funky House Mini Performances! What was the point? it was like 10 seconds of each song to 'warm up the crowd'
THE GOOD:

  • VV Brown's vocals on the last performance. She has a really nice voice!
  • When they rolled the credits at the end!
  • Reggie did a pretty okay job of hosting, and Keri was a TROOPER for sticking out till the end of the show LOL
THE BAD:

  • -Sigh-...When Kanya King (MOBO Founder) walked onstage, I was disturbed by the 'piece' on her head. Their paying these women so much money, I KNOW homegirl can afford to bb message Kelly Rowland and ask her for the name of her weave consultant!
  • The AWFUL banta between the presenters, and the hosts (Reggie & Keri Hilson). It was so cringe worthy and cheesy.....
  • The fact that EVERY SINGLE PERSON who presented an award mentioned GlASGOW atleast twice! We get it already...
  • Supposedly it was the 'MOBO awards' fault that Kelly Rowland missed her cue and it messed up her sound.
  • JLS MIMING 'BEAT AGAIN'. I'm sorry, I find it so unacceptable that a group who came from a competition BASED ON LIVE SINGING, chose to mime.
  • Keri Hilson's performance ft/Neyo-Cruz . This wasn't a very good/strong performance from Keri, when Taio Cruz sang Neyo's part it didnt make it any better.
THE HILARIOUS:

  • Dappy's stage dive when everyone moved out the way.. LMAO!
  • Egypt being OFF BEAT the whole time she sang 'In The Morning'
  • Amir Khan messing up his words while presenting, LMAO bloody hilarious!
  • When Dappy said 'BIG UP MY STYLIST' .LMAO@ them having a stylist
THE AWWW BLESS MOMENTS:

  • When Shaheen Jafargholi sang the tribute to MJ (BGT Finalist)
  • The fact that I don't think Keri Hilson really knew what she was getting herself into!
  • When Tinchy Didn't get an award. He's defo come up this year and DESERVED an award.
THE VERDICT:

The show was HOT MESS this year! I expected nothing more or nothing less, so kudos on not disappointing. They should just do like Big Brother and know when the end of the road has come ; and this is the end of the road.
